Lone Star Summer Swim League Scholarship Guidelines

Information:

The LSSSL will award two $500 scholarships at the end of each season to one male and one female swimmer. The scholarships are a one-time award and are not renewable each year. A check for the total amount of the scholarship will be paid directly to the scholarship award winner’s college or university once proof of admission and attendance to the college or university is verified by the LSSSL Treasurer.

Eligibility:

Applicants must:

Be a LSSSL active participant in good standing.

Be a graduated high school senior who is swimming in or has completed his/her final year of LSSSL eligibility. Swimmers graduated in the current year’s graduating class, but who are older than eighteen years of age are eligible to apply for the scholarship.

Show a minimum of two years active participation in the LSSSL from ninth grade to senior year of high school.

Criteria:

This scholarship award is intended for a graduated senior who has shown faithful and consistent active participation in the LSSSL at minimum, ninth grade to senior year of high school.

The applicant should:

Have participated two years in the Lone Star Summer Swim League from ninth grade to senior year of high school.

Have regularly participated in the League Championship Meet.

Have continually been faithful in attendance at practices and meets.

Exhibit a strong character, leadership, sportsmanship, and team spirit.

Relate well with and be held in high regard by his/her league, coaches, teammates, officials, volunteers, and parents.

Judging:

A panel of five judges will review scholarship applicants. The panel will consist of one representative per division, a youth representative, and the President of the LSSSL. Alternates should be selected in the event that a representative cannot or fails to complete duties as a scholarship judge. A representative from each division may be a coach, team representative, or parent (unrelated to the applicant). The youth representative must be at least 15 years of age, but not a senior in high school.

The LSSSL board will give final approval to the scholarship committee’s recommendations.

Application Process:

Scholarship applications may be obtained through the Team Representative or printed from the LSSSL website.

The deadline for application for the scholarship is June 1st. Completed applications must be returned to the LSSSL Treasurer, postmarked by June 1st in order to be considered.

Award Date:

Winners of the scholarships will be announced at the LSSSL Championship Meet. At that time, winners will receive instruction on how to claim the scholarship from the LSSSL Treasurer. Deadline for acceptance of the scholarship from recipients is August 15th. If the scholarship recipient fails to claim the scholarship money by that date, LSSSL reserves the right to rescind the scholarship offer.
